Management Essentials: The Nigerians Arrived in Town

Management Essentials: The Nigerians Arrived in Town

Professionals mostly drawn from Nigeria, met last month for their 5 days of “Management Essentials” programme. It took place in Dubai at the Fairmont Hotel on Sheik Zayed Street. With a learning suite on the 33rd floor the venue provided uninterrupted views of the city and a fitting backdrop for out of the box thinking and visioning of a future waiting to be created.

Management Essentials offers a best practice guide to all principle aspects of the managers role; planning, organising, controlling and leading, but also highlights the growing trend that managers must indeed demonstrate leadership in the 21st century. The phrase “managerial leader” used throughout the programme aptly describes the thinking that underpins current theoretical debate.

With a strong emphasis on the psychology of inter and intra personal skills, the importance of communication skills lies at the core of this intervention. Indeed, a fundamental tenet throughout the week is the notion that the quality of our managerial or leadership outcomes are directly related to the quality of our organisational dialogues; only through communication can managers and or leaders convey, convince and connect with others.

Seeking to highlight the role of the “managerial leader”, there is a clear link between theoretical models and their pragmatic application; thus, delegates acquire a wide range of strategies and skills that can add immediate value to their practice.

Key areas covered include:

  • Transitioning to the management role
  • The boss I would like to become: competencies and behaviours
  • A psychometric analysis of management styles and their outcomes
  • Common mistakes that managers make
  • Successful performance management; key tips for productive outcomes
  • How to build a high performing team and clarifying purpose and direction
  • Generating a climate of continuous improvement
  • Motivating to empower, engage, enable and enhance the performance of others
  • Managing and communicating priorities and deliverables

This highly interactive programme offers a challenging learning agenda for all.
